Ascott Raffles Place Singapore
There are hundreds of hotels in Singapore and dozens that offer refined boutique luxury experiences, but only a few that offer cultural luxury enveloped in the rich history of Singapore. Ascott Raffles Place Singapore is one of these distinguished heritage hotels.
Ascott Raffles Place is located in what used to be the Asia Insurance Building. The building was designed by one of Singapore’s pioneer architects and was finished in 1954. At 20 stories, it claimed the title of the then tallest building in Asia. Its Art Deco design and construction quality was prestigious enough to be featured in Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation celebration. In 2008 the building underwent a $100 million renovation and became Ascott Raffles Place, and has earned its place as one of the top luxury properties in Singapore.
A pleasant change from a typical hotel, the Ascott features luxury serviced apartments. Our apartment was decorated and furnished with contemporary styling and a dash of historic charm. The apartment had surround sound and modern luxury fixtures and the original brass accented windows in the bedroom. The apartment included a fully stocked modern kitchen, a large bathroom, living room, and a bedroom with sweeping views across Singapore’s elegant financial district. Water and coffee were refilled daily. The apartments are large enough to entertain guests and the daily housekeeping eliminates the need to wash dishes or spend any time cleaning.
The Ascott at Raffles Place is located in the heart of Singapore’s financial district. There are many museums nearby and Merlion Park is just a short walk away. There is a MRT station around the corner and many bus stops nearby. The Marina Bay Sands is about 5 minutes away by Taxi (or a short walk) and numerous shopping malls are within walking distance or a short taxi ride.
The Royal Mail Restaurant and Bar serves modern British cuisine and cocktails on the 1st and 2nd floor of Ascott Raffles Place. We joined a lively crowd to listen to live music one night. The lobby is tastefully decorated and the staff snap to attention to anticipate your needs.
The floor with the pool and enormous gym also has an outdoor work area and the “living room” guest lounge with complimentary coffee, water and snacks. The walls of the swimming pool are made entirely of glass allowing swimmers an uninterrupted panoramic view of the financial district.
The roof has two jacuzzis, lounge chairs, and a comfortable seating area surrounded by trees. The Ascott has not been the tallest building in the world for a long time, so the surrounding skyscrapers tower over you, but create an interesting view. We could even see Marina Bay and the Gardens by the Bay from the roof.
We were always well attended to during our stay and the staff went above and beyond to accomodate any requests or needs. The Ascott has only 146 rooms so we were never lost in a sea of guests, and when we returned to the Ascott in the evenings we truly felt as if we were returning home. We appreciated the staff knowing our names, having a taxi ready whenever we needed it, and knowing where we were headed. They were all ready to provide recommendations from local favorites to upscale dining .
Ascott Raffles Place should be considered by any family or discerning traveler that wants to visit Singapore in style with all the comforts of home and more. The facilities are perfect for business travel, romantic getaways, and holidays with friends. The comfortable design, excellent amenities and wonderful service made for a truly luxurious stay.
