Cheeva Spa: Boutique Relaxation in Chiang Mai
Cheeva Spa in Chiang Mai takes Thai hospitality to the next level with its very personal service, private consultation rooms and treatment villas. We were warmly greeted and led to our cozy, clean waiting room where we enjoyed tea and listened to the soothing music. After our feet were washed with limes, we filled out our treatment cards while we sat in the small but comfortable consultation room.
Lit candles lined our walk back through the main house and out into a garden with a small waterfall. Our villa had two raised beds, a bathtub and a bathroom. It was small, dimly lit and cool. The music was perfect. I changed into super soft Thai pajamas for a traditional Thai massage and Eric slipped into some disposable underwear to prepare for an oil aromatherapy massage. The calm, relaxing vibes were never disturbed. The masseuses even whispered.
This was the first 90 minute treatment either of us had received in Thailand and the extra 30 minutes made a surprising difference. In fact, the recommended minimum time to get the full benefits from a Thai massage is 90 minutes. This was also the strongest pressure I have been able to stand during a Thai massage and I could tell a difference because of that as well. Although it was intense, there was minimal back cracking and no painful bending. It seemed there was more of an emphasis on the deep stretching than I have experienced elsewhere and I really enjoyed it. Of course the masseuse made sure the pressure was ok, but I recommend toughing it through the pain so you can experience the end results.
Eric’s oil aromatherapy massage was not as strong as a Thai massage but still alleviated sore muscles, especially around his neck and upper back. The 90 minutes allowed for a deeper sense of relaxation compared to past oil massages. The lavender and herbal oil is a special blend made at Cheeva spa and was wonderfully scented and very enjoyable
As our time was running out, the masseuse began to comb my hair. A nice touch, I thought, as that is such a soothing feeling to so many people. But she didn’t stop there. I left my massage with a beautiful Thai style braid wrapped around my head complete with a few flowers.
We ended our visit over tea with a mango and sticky rice snack. The personal touch and intimate atmosphere at Cheeva Spa really make it stand out. The boutique feel emphasizes the attention paid to customers and ensures you will leave feeling relaxed.
